Asa Spades
Asa Spades is a multidisciplinary artist living in Santa Cruz. Their series “Bloom” was originally inspired by the wildfires that ravaged the Santa Cruz mountains. Each piece is complex, primal, and unapologetically queer. Natural elements such as wood and dried flowers and leaves are integral to the theme of the series, presenting each subject as a creature of nature. “Bloom” invites the viewer to engage in high fantasy versions of their own experience of diversity, propelling the narrative that we are all strange and unusual creatures born from the earth.
